God answered his prayers, and a cloud rose from the sea and brought down torrential rains that saved the people of Israel. The life of the prophet Elijah attracted many hermits to Mount Carmel. In the 12th century, the hermits built a chapel dedicated to Our Lady and founded the Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel.However, in England, the Brothers were being persecuted and mistreated by other religious orders. Then, the Prior General of the Carmelite religious order, St. Simon Stock, asked for Virgin Mary’s protection.
