Margaret adds details and a bit of her own imagination to expertly flesh out the stories. For example, Mary has a collection of special objects she keeps in a box. Mother Noah has much to say about life on the ark. Miriam followed her baby brother, Moses, as he floated in the river. Other figures, not so well known, appear as well; Pilate's wife for example, and Lydia from the Acts of the Apostles. The stories can be comical or heart-rending, but always engaging and insightful.
Each story is beautifully illustrated by Italian artist Alida Massari who describes her work as "modern but with ancient atmosphere". The illustrations do justice to the stories. This picture book is perfect for young ladies, ages six to eleven.
